1 Critical Analysis Series: Kola Boof/Womanist Writer 2002 Apr 21
"Entering the world of Kola Boof was not as smooth for me as I had expected. I'm an entirely different kind of woman from Kola. We're both black women, but I am very lightskinned, upper-class and conservative. I would never pose topless on the back of a book cover. I'm an American, born and raised in Richmond, Virginia while Kola is a Nile River Sudanese who was adopted and raised by African Americans after her birth parents were murdered for speaking out against slavery in the Sudan. I am Christian in a serious way--while Kola Boof's religious beliefs seem to be mysterious, Goddess-based, animist and totally of her own choosing. She was born Islamic but now rejects that religion. In fact, she is quite bitter towards Islamic Arabic people."

The group began in March of 2000 after much prayer and guidance from my big Sister, Cashana, who is President of the Imani Book Club, Montgomery, AL. I was very doubtful at first, but we've grown by leaps and bounds, and I have inspired many others to start groups of their own."
